Agathe Fleury
n.b.k. Showroom

Archipel
September 8 November 4, 2012Curator: Marius Babias
The exhibition Archipel (Archipelago) is the first solo show of Berlin architect Arno Brandlhuber (born in 1964) at an art institution. Brandlhuber has transformed the exhibition space at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein into an insular urban landscape made of concrete (with various additional substances) using elements from previous exhibitions: Karin Sander's drillings (2011) serve as openings for the pouring concrete and Olafur Elliason's Forever Lamp (2011) from the exhibition The Future Archive (2012) provides the lighting. The concrete in the exhibition space grows into an abstract urban landscape of Berlin consisting of several linked units that can be entered by the visitor. The mirrored walls amplify the spatial effect of insularity. By reusing and re-inscribing extant elements, a collage of various time-space interventions is created according to the principle of architectural restructuring. In addition, the soundtrack of an advertisement from Philippe Starck's architecture and design project Yoo Berlin can be heard. Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and Arno Brandlhuber began their collaboration in 2011: in an election campaign poster (RGB 165/96/36 CMYK 14/40/80/20) for the local Berlin elections (available as an n.b.k. Edition), Brandlhuber demanded alternatives from policy makers to construction plans and the linked social order.

Agathe Fleury (n.b.k. Showroom)
September 11 November 2, 2012For her exhibition at n.b.k. Showroom, Berlin-based French artist Agathe Fleury (b. 1976) developed a new complex of works by experimenting with material processes that refuse absolute control. In so doing, she explores the studio as a site of craftsmanship and methods of developing ideas through alchemistic practices. Fleury is interested in older techniques of craftsmanship and the approach to everyday materials.

Video-Forums sind u.a.

III Moscow International Biennale For Young Art
July 11 -08.10, 2012Neuer Berliner Kunstverein is cooperation partner of the III Moscow International Biennale For Young Art under the title Under A Tinsel Sun which is located at the Central House of Artists in Moscow until08.10, 2012. The organizers are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow, the National Centre for Contemporary Art (NCCA), Moscow, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA). Kathrin Becker, head of n.b.k. Video-Forum, is the curator of this year's Biennale. Works by artist of n.b.k.'s collection, e.g. Anetta Mona Chi_a & Lucia Tká_ová, Elise Florenty, Patrycja German, Laura Horelli, Ciprian Mure_an and Marina Naprushkina, are shown in the Biennale.
The Biennale focuses on a young generation of artists aged up to 35 years and portrays the heterogeneity of subjects, languages and styles, which are so urgent in this generation. The long established alleged bipolarity between reality and virtuality gives way to the consciousness that also "reality" as such is constructed, subjective and fragmented. This realization becomes the drive for the artists' self-positioning and for their production of works that no longer describe the phenomena surrounding them as "objective", but that aspire to catalyze a multidimensional and alternative perception of the world. Fanzines of international young artists are presented in a special reading section and are selected by Viktor Neumann. A number of parallel programs in various locations in Moscow, as well as an educational program with workshops by international artists, round table discussions, and lectures takes place. On the occassion of the Biennale an extensive publication (Russian / English) has been published.
