Der Traum vom Fliegen - The Art of Flying
Ausstellung, Fluglabor, Führungen, Flugtage, Vorträge
Träume vom Fliegen und die Entwicklung seiner Technologie:
In der Ausstellung geht es um Kunst, um Macht und um Neurobiologie,
um moderne Flugtechnik und prämoderne Erfahrungen. Der Parcours
führt durch die faszinierenden Bilderwelten, körperlichen
Erfahrungen und Technologien, die Requisiten und Vehikel des
menschlichen Traums vom Fliegen: von einem der ältesten
und wertvollsten in Europa erhaltenen Schamanenmäntel über
einen Wolkenwagen des Barocktheaters und die Montgolfière
bis zum Space-Trainer für Weltraumpiloten. Prähistorische
Bumerangs stehen neben dem zeitgenössischen Triebwerk und
den Schleudersitzen. Altchinesische Raketen und der Nachbau einer
sibirischen "Flugrampe" für Schamanen neben Geschwindigkeitsfantasien
des Futurismus und Flugsimulationen. Trance-Erlebnisse und religiöse
Flugmystik neben den Ideen der ersten Flugpioniere und der Flugbesessenen.
Hier ist die Faszination des Fliegens nachzuspüren und in
einem Space-Trainer oder angesichts optischer Täuschungen
auch selbst zu erproben. Die Ausstellung wirft Fragen auf: Was
wäre, wenn angesichts von Ressourcenknappheit und Klimawandel
auf die Realisierung von Raumfahrt und Personenflugverkehr für
Millionen verzichtet werden müsste? Wie wäre der alte
Traum dann zu realisieren?

Der Traum vom Fliegen The Art of Flying

Dreams of flight and the development of the technology to
achieve it: this is an exhibition about art, power and neurobiology,
modern aviation technology and pre-modern experiences. The show
takes visitors to fascinating worlds of pictures, physical experiences
and the technologies, props and vehicles of human flight: from
one of Europes oldest and most valuable surviving shamans cloaks
to a "flying carriage" from Baroque theater, from the
Montgolfière to the space trainer for astronauts. It features
prehistoric boomerangs alongside a contemporary jet engine and
ejector seats, ancient Chinese rockets and a model of a Siberian
"take-off" ramp for shamans alongside futuristic speed
fantasies and flight simulations, experiences of trance and religious
flight mysticism alongside the ideas of the early flight pioneers
and aviation fanatics. Visitors can feel the fascination of flight
by trying out the space trainer or experiment with optical illusions.
The exhibition also throws up questions: what if climate change
and a scarcity of resources were to oblige humankind to abstain
from space exploration and mass passenger air travel? How, then,
could we make our ancient dream of flight come true?

Wie muss mein Körper geschaffen sein, damit er fliegen kann?
Im Fluglabor der Ausstellung haben Künstler und Computerfachleute
Aktionen vorbereitet, künstlerisch-kreativ und forschend
den Geheimnissen des "Traums vom Fliegen" auf den Grund
zu gehen: Warum fliegen wir in unseren Träumen? Wie baut
man den perfekten Papierflieger? Zeigt GoogleMaps unsere Welt
oder eine Google-Welt? Am Wochenende kann gemeinsam mit Künstlern

Performance, Musik, Installation: Schülerinnen und Schüler
zeigen ihren Traum vom Fliegen. (24.-26.03.) Am Girls'
Day (14.04.) geben junge Auszubildenende interessierten
Mädchen Einblick in den technischen Aspekt des "Traums
vom Fliegen", und am 16. und 17.04. locken Papierflieger-Meisterschaften,
Flugmodell-Rundflüge um den Spiegelteich und Vieles mehr.

Blackbox Abschiebung
Bilder und Geschichten von Leuten, die gern geblieben wären.
Mit den Revolutionen in den arabischen Ländern sind sie
plötzlich wieder da: Die Bilder von Flüchtlingen, die
an die Türen Europas klopfen. Wie ergeht es denjenigen,
die zurück in ihre Heimat geschickt werden? In dem Ausstellungsprojekt
"Blackbox Abschiebung" dokumentieren einige
dieser "Abgeschobenen" ihre Lebensgeschichten. Sie
nehmen eine Fotokamera mit auf den Weg und berichten über
ihr Leben, nachdem sie Deutschland verlassen mussten. Zur Eröffnung
diskutieren Mark Terkessidis, Ralf Jesse, Bruno Watara und N.N./Initiative

Flight Laboratory
What shape must a body have to be able to fly? In the exhibitions
Flight Laboratory, artists and computer specialists have
got together to design artistic; creative and scientific research
experiments to investigate the secrets behind the "Art of
Flying": Why do we fly in our dreams? How do you make the
perfect paper plane? Does GoogleMaps show us the real world or
the world of Google? At weekends, you can take part in joint

Performances, music, installations: high-school students present
their "Art of Flying". (24.-26.03.) On Girls'
Day (14.04.), young trainees will offer interested
girls professional insights into the "Art of Flying";
and on 16 and 17 April there will be more special attractions,
including paper plane championships, and model plane flights

Blackbox Abschiebung
Pictures and stories of people who would have liked to stay.
The revolutions across the Arab World have put another issue
in the spotlight refugees trying to make it into Europe. But
what happens to those people who are sent home? Through the exhibition
project "Blackbox Abschiebung" ("Black Box
Deportation"), some of these "deportees" document
their life stories. They each take a camera with them on their
journey and send back photographs and reports about the lives
they lead after being forced to leave Germany. Opening podium

Außenseiterkunst - Gustav Mesmers Traum vom Fliegen
Wolfram Voigtländer (Psychiater und Psychotherapeut) beschäftigt
sich mit den kreativen Potenzialen psychisch Kranker. In seinem
Vortrag spricht er über Gustav Mesmer (1903-1994), der als
Außenseiter sein Leben lang den Traum vom Fliegen geträumt
hat. Wie viele Art-Brut-Künstler lebte er kompromisslos:
Für ihn war Fliegen können ein Schritt zur Vergöttlichung

Outsider Art - Gustav Mesmer's Art of Flying
Wolfram Voigtländer (psychiatrist and psychotherapist) studies
the creative potential of mentally ill people. His lecture is
about Gustav Mesmer (1903-1994), who spent his life as an outsider,
dreaming the dream of flight. Like many exponents of outsider
art, he lived uncompromisingly: he regarded flight as a step
towards deification for mankind.

in the framework of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2011 (September
6-17)
Haus der Kulturen der Welt invites up-and-coming curators
to apply for SYNAPSE - The International Curators' Network at
Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Moderated by international curators,
scientists and other experts, the first network meeting of SYNAPSE
will focus on the interactions between science and art. Among
other questions, it will address how scientific topics can be
approached by curators. In interdisciplinary workshops, ten selected
SYNAPSE curators and the five winning curators of Meridian I
Urban.Curatorial Projects on Health will generate new project
ideas. Visits to galleries, museums, and project and exhibition
spaces will connect SYNAPSE participants with the vibrant Berlin
art scene.

Greenlab: greendesign 2.0 Learning from Nature
Wie können nachhaltige Designstrategien aus der Natur generiert
werden? Dieser Frage gehen ForscherInnen, TechnologInnen und
DesignerInnen aus verschiedenen Bereichen der Bionik und des
ökologischen Designs beim Symposium GREENLAB nach. Im Verlauf
der Evolution hat die Natur eine eigene Logik des besten Designs
und der besten Funktionsweise herausgebildet, Systeme entwickelt
und optimiert. Die Natur, ihre natürlich gewachsenen Organisationsprinzipien
sind Vorbild für die gestalterische Praxis vieler Designer.

durch Ereignisse in Japan hochaktuell gewordene Dokumentation:
Am Anfang des Films steht die Verheißung, ein utopisch-leuchtendes
Projekt der Energie. Was folgt, ist das Panorama des Nuklearbetriebs
in Deutschland.
Diese Welt wird in kleinen Dosen präsentiert, durch Einblicke
in den verschwiegenen Alltag hinter den Mauern der Atomanlagen.

Wie und wo manifestiert sich - die Wut? Welchen Stellenwert hat
sie, welche Wege nimmt sie, wo schreibt sie sich ein? Dieses

wo sie unmittelbar und spektakulär ausbricht. Sondern sucht
nach abstrakten und reflektierten Formen der Auseinandersetzung

Greenlab: greendesign 2.0 Learning from Nature
The focus of the symposium 'Green Design 2.0 Learning from Nature'
is on the question of whether and how sustainable design strategies
may be generated by natural means. Invited guests include researchers,
technological experts and designers from various areas of bionics
and ecological design. During the course of evolution, nature
has formed its own logic of optimal design and functionality,
and has continuously developed and improved its systems. Nature
and its organically-developed principles of organization serve
as a model for many designers work. With this symposium, GREENLAB
is launching another semester of intensive research and work
on the subject of sustainability and "Learning from Nature".

Documentary by Volker Sattel
Just before the film launch, the HKW is screening Volker Sattels
documentary, which has suddenly been rendered all the more topical
by events in Japan: the documentary begins with the promise of
a shining, Utopian source of energy for the future. What follows
is a panoramic portrayal of nuclear power generation in Germany.
The film introduces the nuclear world in small doses, through
brief glimpses into the secret day-to-day goings-on behind the
walls of the nuclear plants. The film creates a prism of nuclear
sites that reflect on the epoch of German nuclear power a piece
of the history of civilization. Film preview and discussion with
Volker Sattel, Bert Rebhandl (film reviewer), Adrienne Goehler
(publicist and curator), Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald (Karlsruher
Institut für Technologie) and Dorothee Wenner (journalist

Just published: ON RAGE / ÜBER WUT
How and where does rage manifest itself? What status does it
have in our lives, what courses does it follow, where does it
leave its mark? This book explores the diverse phenomenon that
is rage and not just in places where it breaks out suddenly and
spectacularly. It also seeks abstract and reflected forms of
dealing with the critical points that lead to sudden transformations
in human behavior. Its about big political questions, about those
moments in which rage testifies to the failure of diplomatic
means, in which negotiations break down when other socially accepted
forms of expression are introduced. With contributions by Jimmie
Durham, Tadeusz Kantor, Abdelwahab Meddeb, Terézia Mora,
Michael Rakowitz, Monika Rinck, Mick Taussig, Stefan Weidner,
Aaron Ben Zeev, Jean Ziegler and many others.
