Tony Oursler
Der Kunstverein Hannover zeigt eine umfassende Werkschau des New Yorker
Künstlers Tony Oursler.
Zu sehen sind insgesamt zehn Werkgruppen: eine Übersicht seiner Videos
seit 1976 , Trash (Empirical) eine Serie bisher noch nie gezeigter
Fotografien von 1998 sowie neue Zeichnungen und die neueste Version der
CD-ROM Fantastic Prayers; außerdem zahlreiche Videoskulpturen
darunter Dummies und Clouds und neue speziell für diese
Ausstellung entstandene Arbeiten aus den Werkgruppen Eyes, Heads, Viruses
und Talking Lights.
Die CD-ROM Fantastic Prayers wurde produziert vom Dia center for
the Arts in New York und ist das Resultut einer mehrjährigen Zusammenarbeit
von Tony Oursler mit der Schriftstellerin Constance DeJong und dem Musiker
Stephen Vitiello. In einem eigenen mit einem Computer ausgestatteten Raum
im Kunstverein hat jeder Besucher die Möglichkeit in die fantastische
Welt der neun virtuellen Environments einzusteigen.

132 Seiten im Format 24 x 29 cm, Broschur Fadenheftung mit über 130
zum Teil großformatige Abbildungen in Farbe. Texte in Englisch und
Deutsch von Thyrza Nichols Goodeve Warren Niesluchowski, Martina Goldner
und ein Interview von Lynne Cooke mit Tony Oursler, Constance DeJong und
Stephen Vitiello. Gestaltung: Felix Janssens Rotterdam. Der Katalog liegt
zur Eröffnung vor. DM 42 / 35 für Mitglieder.
The Kunstverein Hannover is showing a comprehensive selection of works
by the New York artist Tony Oursler.
The exhibition features ten groups of works: an anthology of Oursler's
videos since 1976; Trash (Empirical), a series of photographs from
1998 seen here for the first time; a collection of new drawings und the
latest version of the CD-ROM Fantastic Prayers; video sculptures
from the groups Dummies and Clouds, and a number of new works,
including Eyes, Head, Viruses and Talking Light, which were
made specially for this show.
The CD-ROM Fantastis Prayers, produced by the Dia Center for the Arts in
New York, is the result of a collaboration over a period of several years
with the writer Constuance DeJong and the musician Stephen Vitiello. It
is shown at the Kunstverein in a seperate room equipped with acomputer,
enabling the visitor to step inside the fantasy world of the nine virtual
environments.
