Mit CitySellingCityTelling will Sparwasser HQ einen Raum für
Forschung, Recherche und Wissensproduktion von Künstlern bereitstellen,
die sich auf verschiedene Aspekte der Identität von Stadt konzentrieren.
Während eines Zeitraums von 6 Wochen werden drei Projekte nacheinander
vorgestellt. Public Brands von Andreas Fogarasi besteht aus
verschiedenen Arbeiten, die sich mit dem Branding des öffentlichen
Raums auseinandersetzen. Mehr und mehr treten öffentliche Verwaltungen
ihren Bürgern und Touristen als Marke entgegen und versuchen so nicht
zuletzt, Identifikation herzustellen.
Im Anschluß präsentiert Sparwasser HQ CODE:RED von
Tadej Pogacar: ein multidisziplinäres, multimediales Kollaborations-Projekt,
das sich auf globale Sexarbeit konzentriert und informelle Ökonomiemodelle,
Selbstorganisation und globalen Handel diskutiert. Neben der Ausstellung
umfasst die Präsentation bei Sparwasser HQ eine Diskussion am runden
Tisch sowie die Publikation der dritten Ausgabe der internationalen Zeitschrift
SEX WORKER.
Sowohl Form als auch Inhalt werden sich radikal verändern, wenn
Sparwasser anschließend das temporäre operationale Hauptquartier
der International Necronautical Society (INS) wird: eine weitläufig
vernetzte Organisation, die sich zwischen den Welten der Kunst, Fiktion,
Philosopie und Medien bewegt. Die INS Inspecorate Berlin erklärt:
"Berlin ist die Welthauptstadt des Todes, und folglich die Welthauptstadt
der Auslöschung. Das Gewebe der Stadt ist nichts anderes als die Auslöschung
der Spuren des Todes."
Das vierte Projekt von Kristina Ask/Free Floating Faculty ist
eine Reihe kollaborativer Forschungsprojekte, die der Kunst als einer Art
der Wissensproduktion nachgehen. Einige Male wird das Projekt, anfänglich
Asks Beitrag zu der Ausstellung City Rumble in Kopenhagen, unter dem Titel
Sharing knowledge/OpenSource BerlinCopenhagen an Sparwasser HQ andocken.
Im Gegenzug wird Free Floating Faculty die Projekte von CitySellingCityTelling
nach Kopenhagen einschiffen und Ort diskursiver Workshops sein, die das
Kopenhagener Publikum einbeziehen.

Sparwasser HQ freut sich die sechswöchige Ausstellungsreihe
CitySellingCityTelling mit dem Projekt Public Brands des österreichischen
Künstlers Andreas Fogarasi zu eröffnen.
Fogarasi setzt sich kritisch mit dem Branding des öffentlichen
Raums auseinander. Mehr und mehr treten städtische Verwaltung ihren
Bürgern und Touristen als Brands (Marke) entgegen und versuchen so
nicht zuletzt, Identifikation herzustellen. Fogarasi arbeitet in verschiedenen
Medien mit Strategien der Aneignung dieser Public Brands.
Das Video Public Brands - Deutsche Städte ist eine seiner
neusten Arbeit und wird erstmals in Sparwasser HQ präsentiert. Die
Logos deutscher Städte erscheinen hintereinander in einer Endlosschleife,
und erzeugen so eine unterschwellige hypnotische Wirkung. Die einzelnen
Logos hat er zu klaren schwarz-weiß Grafiken reduziert. Einige der
Logos beziehen sich auf traditionelle Wappen, während andere eher
eine zeitgenössische oder moderne Ästhetik anstreben. In einer
weiteren Arbeit nimmt Fogarasi Bezug auf verschiedene Logos der Stadt Kopenhagen
und thematisiert damit den Rahmen von CitySellingCityTelling, als
Teil des Urban Art Stories: ein Projekt, das seine Gestalt durch
die gemeinsame Arbeit verschiedener Partner in Kopenhagen, Berlin und Malmö
gefunden hat.
Fogarasi reflektiert wie Staaten, Regionen oder Städte sich zunehmend
über dieselben Bedingungen definieren wie es kommerzielle Unternehmen
tun. Indem er ihre Logos auf subtiler Art und Weise überträgt
und ihre Ästhetik eigentümlich auf ein Wesentliches reduziert.
Parallel zu seinen visuellen Arbeiten wird Fogarasi ein Interview mit Dr.
Albrecht Göschel des Deutschen Instituts für Urbanismus führen.
Insgesamt wird CitySellingCityTelling vier Projekte vorstellen,
die vom 20. April bis zum 28. Mai präsentiert werden. Weitere Projekte
sind: Tadej Pogacar / CODE:RED (Ljubljana), International Necronautical
Society INS Inspectorate Berlin (London) und Kristina Ask / Free
Floating Faculty (Kopenhagen).

Sparwasser HQ presents:
Andreas Fogarasi Public Brands

As the first part of Sparwasser HQ,s six-week project CitySellingCityTelling,
we proudly present the Austrian artist Andreas Fogarasi's Public Brands.
Fogarasi examines the branding of the public sphere from a critical point
of view. Public administrations present themselves increasingly to their
citizens and tourists as brands, with the intention of offering to the
public a point of reference or identification.
These brands are appropriated by Fogarasi in various media spanning
from video and photo to installation. Public Brands - Deutsche Städte
is a video piece made particularly for the exhibition at Sparwasser HQ.
There is something almost hypnotic about the presentation of the logo of
one GermanCity after the other. Each one is reduced to a black and white
graphic, some relying ontraditional emblems while others are obviously
aiming at amore contemporary or modern aesthetic.
Another piece reenacts various logos from Copenhagen, and is thereby
taking point of departure in the particular context of CitySellingCityTelling
being part of Urban Art Stories: a project taking shape through
the joint efforts of partners in Copenhagen, Berlin and Malmö.
Through subtle appropriation and distillation of the logos and corporate
designs of public administrations, Fogarasi reflects how states, regions,
and cities increasingly define themselves by the same terms as corporations.
Furthermore Fogarasi will do an interview with Dr. Albrecht Göschel
fromDeutschen Instituts für Urbanismus.
CitySellingCityTelling will present all-together four projects from
April 20. through May 28. The coming projects include Tadej Pogacar / CODE:RED
(Ljubljana) International Necronautical Society (London), and Kristina
Ask /Free Floating Faculty (Copenhagen). CitySellingCityTelling
is part of the project Urban Art Stories that ties together Copenhagen,

With CitySellingCityTelling Sparwasser HQ aims at providing space for research,
investigation and knowledge production among artists focusing on various
aspects of city identity. During a period of 6 weeks Sparwasser HQ will
host three projects individually. Public Brands by Andreas Fogarasi consists
of various works which examine the branding of the public sphere. Public
administrations are starting more and more to present themselves to their
citizens and tourists as a brand and, not least, to offer them the chance
to identify with it. Hereafter Sparwasser HQ will be hosting CODE:RED by
Tadej Pogacar: a multidisciplinary, multimedia, collaboration project,
which focuses on global sex work, and discusses the informal economy models,
self-organisation, and global trafficking. The presentation in Sparwasser
HQ will include an exhibition, a roundtable discussion, and a publication
of the third issue of the international newspaper SEX WORKER. Both form
and content will radically change, when Sparwasser becomes the temporary
operational Head Quarter of the International Necronautical Society (INS):
an expansive, networked organisation sliding between the worlds of art,
fiction, philosophy and media The INS Inspectorate Berlin asserts that
'Berlin is the world capital of death, hence also the world capital of
erasure. The fabric of the city is nothing other than the erasure of the
traces of death.'
The fourth project by Kristina Ask/Free Floating Faculty is a row of
collaborative research projects, examining art as a way of producing knowledge.
On 1 - 2 occasions the project, that is initially Ask's contribution to
the exhibition City Rumble in Copenhagen, will dock at Sparwasser under
the title Sharing knowledge/OpenSource BerlinCopenhagen Vice versa Free
Floating Faculty will ship the projects from CitySellingCityTelling to
Copenhagen, and host discursive workshops involving the local Copenhagen
audience.

Sparwasser HQ is pleased to present
Inspectorate Berlin: Aerial Reconnaissance Phase.
As the last of a series of three project presentations under the heading
CitySellingCityTelling, Sparwasser will become the operational HQ
of the International Necronautical Society (INS) Inspectorate Berlin: Aerial
Reconnaissance Phase.
The Aerial Reconnaissance team led by INS Chief of Propaganda (Archiving
and Epistemological Critique) Anthony Auerbach will be joined by INS Chief
Obituary Reviewer Melissa McCarthy for a series of site-specific investigations
dictated by the INS central interests: "marking and erasure; transit,
circulation and control; cryptography and death". The materials will
be assembled at Sparwasser HQ over the next two weeks.
The Inspectorate,s work will be accessible to the public 16-28 May 2005
at Sparwasser HQ Offensive für zeitgenössische Kunst und Kommunikation,
Torstraße 161, 10115 Berlin (Opening hours: Wed-Fri 1600-1900h, Sat
1400-1800h and by appointment). On 28 May at 2000h, INS General Secretary
will hear reports on the Inspectorate's field work and hold a public briefing.

Volkswagen, AUTOeducation, AUTOeconomy, and AUTOculture
A transparent and unstructured presentation about our insecurity with
and (im)possible relations to Volkswagen.
We will present a totally random and empirical collection of
knowledgesurrounding the Volkswagen Universitätsbibliotek in Berlin
and Project FOX in Copenhagen.
We will discuss strategies of Volkswagen: invading the
liberalized education sector in Germany, and accumulating
symbolic capital in new branding strategies with Project FOX.
This event takes place on Friday May 20th at 2pm
at Sparwasser HQ, Torstr. 161, Berlin Mitte.
An un-guided tour of the Volkswagen Universitätsbibliothek
will occur later the same day.

Necronautical Society (INS) Inspectorate Berlin, currently headquartered
at Sparwasser, concludes its visit with a public briefing chaired by INS
General Secretary Tom McCarthy.
Tom McCarthy will be joined by independent curator and writer Inke Arns
to hear reports from fieldworkers Anthony Auerbach (INS Chief of Propaganda,
Archiving and Epistemological Critique) and Melissa McCarthy (INS Chief
Obituary Reviewer) on recent aerial reconnaissance operations.
The INS Inspectorate Berlin comprises a series of site-specific investigations
dictated by the INS central interests: marking and erasure; transit, circulation
and control; cryptography and death. Results of photographic reconnaissance
and other data will be made public.
Founded in 1999 by Tom McCarthy, the International Necronautical Society
spreads itself as both fiction and actuality, often blurring the two. "Famously
described as 'replaying the avant-garde along the faultline of death'"
(Art Monthly, London), the INS inhabits and appropriates a variety of art
forms and cultural 'moments', from the defunct avant-gardes of the last
century to the political, corporate and conspiratorial organisations they
mimicked. The INS's manifestos, proclamations, reports, broadcasts, hearings,
inspectorates, departments, committees and sub-committees are the vehicles
for interventions in the space of art, fiction, philosophy and media.

Sparwasser HQ participates in the group exhibition "Situation
: Collaborations, collectives and artist networks from Sydney, Singapore

Between June 3. and June 24. Lise Nellemann, Jole Wilcke and Ariane
Müller traveled to Sidney
for exhibition and public events.
Sparwasser HQ participation was supported by The Goethe Institute in Sydney
and The Danish Arts Agency.
